Late S. N. Kacker - A Tribute

We have assembled here today to mourn the death of Shri Shyam Nath Kacker, a Senior Advocate of this Court and also of the Supreme Court, whose contribution as a lawyer, as a member of our Bar, as a citizen, has been outstanding. Gentlemen, we have all known Shri Kacker, barring those who have joined the Bar in the last 10 years, and he is not only a very important member of the Bar, nay an acknowledged leader of the Bar, here. He was Senior Standing Counsel to the State Government and the Advocate General, U.P., for six years. When he shifted to New Delhi to practise in the Supreme Court he was appointed Soliciter General of India and held that office for over two years and earned a name for his ability and fairness. Later for a short period he was also the Law Minister, Union of India, in 1979. He was also Chairman, Bar Council of U.P., member of the Bar Council of India and then President of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1986. He had reached the dizzy heights in the profes ....
