Role of Striation Mark in Forensic Ballistics

Introduction
The impact of striation-mark on forensic ballistics cannot be denied. It is the strongest way to identify a fire-arm from which a crime-bullet has been fired. Today’s grave crimes like murder, are in many cases committed with fire-arms. The crime-bullet fired hits the body of the victim causing injuries. Some times the crime-bullet is found in the body of the victim and after post-mortem, the crime-bullet is recovered. Sometimes, the crime-bullet is available in the crime-scene, near the corpse or on the neighbouring trees or walls. In all such crime-bullets, there are striation marks. These striation marks prove the linkage with the fire arm and the victim. Prosecution has to prove that the crime-bullet causing murder or any other offences, has been fired from the offending fire-arm.
