Mr. Justice Koka Subba Rao has become the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. He is the tenth puisne Judge and the ninth Chief Justice of that Court. In terms of the commanding distinction he already holds as an uncompromising champion of the fundamental rights, he is Second to none. Indeed he is the first Judge of the free India to be judicially recognised and openly declared as a fearless defender and upholder of our fundamental rights. The Hon'ble Chief Justice Sri S. R. Das declared on 30th September, 1959 on the eve of his retirement "Then we have brother Subba Rao who is extremely unhappy because all our fundamental rights are going to the dogs on account of some ill-conceived judgments of his colleagues which require reconsideration."  It is therefore safe to assume that Sri Subba Rao went to the Supreme Court on 31st January, 1958, not merely to follow but mainly to change the trend of the decisions of . the Supreme Court which he felt ....
